Joanne provides assessment and psychotherapy to help individuals, couples and families with a wide range of concerns and difficulties, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, complex trauma, addictions and living with chronic illness.  Joanne understands the person in the context of their broader social and cultural environment and uses an integrative approach to therapy.  Joanne draws from her experience and training in compassion focused, mindfulness-based and sensorimotor psychotherapy.  With couples and families, Joanne uses emotion focused therapy to help the couple move out of distress so they can enjoy a greater sense of safety, connection and wellbeing.  Joanne is constantly amazed by human strength and resilience, and the ability of people to flourish when they have the right supports and conditions.

Joanne has experience working within a range of community mental health, hospital and prison settings in addition to cancer and hospice care, and private practice.  She completed her Masters degree in Health Psychology at the University of West England, Bristol, UK, where her research focused on living fully with chronic illness and cancer.  She completed her Doctorate in Clinical and Community Psychology at the University of Exeter, UK, where her research, now published, explored peoples' experiences of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for depression.
