Dr. Margaret DeCorte, Ph.D. C.Psych. is a psychologist who has been with OCFI part time since 2021. Her clinical work focuses on compassionate care for young children, youth (0-18) and their families. Margaret was a longtime staff member at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre where she did both inpatient and outpatient assessment and treatment, as well as individual and family therapy; she also has extensive experience running groups, and is a certified Circle of Security leader.

Margaret was a Clinical Professor at the University of Ottawa for over 20 years, supervising students and trainees. She has also been involved in both research and clinical ethics throughout her career, working to improve research & clinical care. Margaret has worked with provincial, national, and international organizations on training, accreditation, and public relations committees. She is an APA member and a registrant with ASPPB.

Margaret’s interest in attachment began in graduate school, and the primary importance of emotional relationships has always been at the core of her work. She did the EFT externship in the early 1990’s. Margaret also coordinated the Ottawa Attachment Study Group for several years. She has always maintained a private practice, and returned to that after retiring from the Royal.

Margaret takes a limited number of referrals for children and their families. She has particular expertise in children and youth with internalizing conditions (anxiety, depression, OCD) as well as trauma, and she works to help families develop authentic communications and secure attachments. Margaret is particularly interested in intergenerational attachment patterns, and works to treat the presenting issues as well as to heal longstanding attachment injuries within families.
